The Powers Of Topical Zinc

Zinc oxide has been used in topical preparations for centuries, it is one of the essential nutrients that our body needs to assist us in fighting off illness, it supports our immune system in fighting off harmful cells and helps our body to regenerate and nurture new cells in order to fight away the nasties.

Zinc is an essential mineral that helps the body inside and out. It can even help maintain the health of your largest organ: your skin.

Zinc

While zinc has been used orally to help reduce severity of colds and viruses, zinc’s topical healing properties make it a common edition in baby care products, foot powders and more recently, has become the hero ingredient in physical sunscreens.

Known as a topical protectant, zinc oxide works its magic by providing astringent, antiseptic and skin regenerating properties. Zinc oxide is used to treat minor skin ailments such as burns, cuts, minor wounds, dandruff and eczema and can help with irritating symptoms such as itching, redness, peeling skin and inflammation. These topical treatments come in the form of powders, pastes, sprays and creams.

Zinc benefit in skin care

More recently, zinc oxide’s incredible healing properties have expanded from treatments for nappy rash and foot powders into acne creams and skin treatments. The increasing addition of zinc in skin care and cosmetic products stem from its never-ending list of benefits.

  • Help regenerate cells
  • Has antiseptic and astringent properties
  • Helps balance the skins oil production
  • Reduces appearance of large pores
  • Enhances collagen synthesis
  • Regenerates connective tissue
  • Balances skin tone
  • Evens pigmentation

When applied topically zinc oxide forms a barrier on top of our skin. Zinc particles are large enough that they are unable to penetrate through our skin cell wall, even in its micronized states.

This protective barrier shields skin from the elements and locks in hydration and moisture. It can also slow signs of ageing by promoting healthy cell regeneration. Zinc can be a skin-saver for individuals who suffer from acne, with its bacteria fighting, anti-inflammatory and astringent abilities, it can be added to the skincare routine in the form of toners, masks and moisturisers.

Zinc oxide is now commonly found in mineral based makeup powders, for not only it’s healthy skin benefits, but for its sun protecting.

Zinc for sun protection

Over the last few years, zinc’s benefits for effective sun protection have been researched extensively, with natural sunscreens becoming increasingly popular in the sun protection market.

Unlike chemical sunscreens, zinc oxide works as a physical barrier by shielding the skin from both UVA and UVB rays, remaining on the top layer of the skin and reflecting them off like a mirror. Zinc-based sunscreens are also a wonderful alternative to chemical sunscreens for individuals with sensitive skin.

Zinc for Healing

Individuals with a zinc deficiency are often prone to slower wound healing, so the addition of topical zinc for skin healing can be beneficial in some cases. Zinc can speed up the healing process of certain wounds and sunburn by facilitating repair.

It has also been found to decrease rates of infection in skin irritations and some wounds and ulcers. The barrier-style protection that zinc provides can protect the wounded skin from external moisture and bacteria and in some cases* speed up the healing process.

Zinc can be a wonderful addition to your everyday routine, whether you incorporate it into your skincare, your sun protection or for wound healing.

Check with a healthcare professional before using  zinc products for nutritional purpose and always consult with your doctor or wound-care specialist before any new treatment for wounds.

DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

Hi, I am big fan of Oz Beeswax, and make a special trip to The Rocks Markets to keep my supplies up! We use it as a daily moisturiser - face, hands, feet - and it's also great for minor cuts / stings / insect bites. It is light, not too greasy and has a low fragrance. We also use the leather / furniture wax for our leather coats and motorbike seat! It's a fantastic sealant and leaves a beautiful, soft finish. I highly recommend this product - it's not often you find an affordable, high quality natural product that actually works. You won't regret it!

My sister brought some of your muscle and joint balm on the weekend just gone. She let me try some today. I’m a gym person so sore muscles are my thing and recently this week I pulled my calf muscle, haven’t been able to walk without it feeling like it was tearing. Just used the balm and OMG!!!!!!!! I’m walking without pain!!! Totally going to be buying myself some.

We recently travelled to Thailand. I bought the stop itch repellent with me and I can honesty say that when wearing it, I didn't get bitten. The beauty of this product is that when I did get bitten because I didn't put it on, I was able to use it to stop the itch and it does just that within minutes the itch stopped. I also use the moisturiser and love it. It's great for extremely dry skin

I was gifted a tub of your lovely lip balm prior to a recent trip to Canada where I worked outside in the elements as a ski instructor. I used it daily on my cold and wind chapped lips and cracked dry hands. I have very sensitive skin but this never caused a reaction. I even rubbed some into my ageing leather gloves at one point, warm and dry hands again. I absolutely love the lack of fragrance and delightfully smooth application. Would highly recommend!

I bought the moisturiser from the Rocks Market.... after two days of using it on my eczema on my face it has almost disappeared. I was a little dubious of it, but it is working a treat. Nice to see a product that has minimal ingredients that really works. I have tried many cream and treatments to no avail. I would recommend this product to anyone with skin issues. Thank you Oz Beeswax :o)

I  always use this product on dry skin and its amazing. When my daughter falls over its used on her scraps and scratches. I get dry skin around the back of my ears near my hairline and it stops itch. I also use it in between my fingers due to cold dry weather. Love my beeswax. I highly recommend this. I will always make sure there is some in my bathroom ready to use.

Thank you! Your product has given me great relief for my dry sore hands. I have had Skin problems for 30 years. I have tried and failed with steroidal creams and hundreds of potions that claim they will help eradicate my severe Eczema and Dermatitis. I put the beeswax on and instantly felt some relief. My hands are finally on the road to recovery. Every day little by little my skin is being nourished by your product. I am so happy I ventured out that day and found this wonderful natural product.

After trying out some of this amazing stuff on my dry skin I decided to start using it on my newly done but healed tattoo and was amazed at how it moisturised and also made my new ink stand out... so when I got another one done not long after I decided to solely use oz beeswax as my aftercare routine and I personally feel it helped heal better and also improved the outcome of how my new tattoo healed... It has now become a part of my tattoo care and I won't look back... this stuff is amazing.

We started using Oz Beeswax as a nappy balm when our baby was about 12 months old. We've been using it now for about 8 months. It smells beautiful and provides just the right amount of moisture, absorption and barrier protection. I like it so much I also use it as a lip balm on myself and my daughter, and it's been useful for insect bites and dry skin for both of us. I like how it's all natural, and because it's solid at room temperature it's great to carry around in a nappy bag. I never have to live with messy burst tubes of cream any more.

Nicole from Sydney

I've been using Oz Beeswax for over a year and I wouldn't use any other product on my face. In my late 40s I suddenly developed severe adult acne and rosacea which caused me a lot of distress as I'd always had a clear complexion. I've spent a lot of money seeing specialists and buying creams which had little effect. After using Oz Beeswax for 2 weeks, the red bumps were noticeably reduced and my skin started to look healthy and feel great. I love this natural product - please don't change a thing.

Anna from the Blue Mountains

This stuff is the best.. Was lucky enough to meet Jo at Luddenham Show where I got to try it for this first time! Will always keep this product in my bag now!

Michelle

Been using the moisturiser for the past year and love it so much I even got my mother-in law to buy it!! You only need the smallest amount so a jar last a long time.

Why is my discount code not working?

Try clearing your cookies. If you're still having problems, please give us a hoy either by phone, SMS or email.

What is the best way to apply your product as it feels a little stiff?

Simply scrape out a bit (or a lot) with your fingernail or an applicator, then rub it into your palm until it's smooth as can be and regularly for the best results. And remember, keep it out of the direct sun and store it below 35 degrees.

Can Oz Beeswax's best seller help with my cracked heels?

Absolutely! Our best seller is a true champ when it comes to cracked heels and dry skin. If you've been on the hunt for relief, it's time to give our best seller a whirl. It's a moisturising barrier that locks in moisture and keeps your feet feeling great all day long.

Why does Oz Beeswax's best seller help with dermatitis?

Our best-selling moisturizer is a blend of beeswax and simple ingredients, perfect for soothing common skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, nappy rash, chafing and more. Unlike harsh steroids and cortisones, our product offers gentle relief with its natural anti-fungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. And with just three ingredients, our customers feel confident using it for their families as you can see from our video and written testimonials.

Is Oz Beeswax products suitable for all skin types?

You bet! Our range at Oz Beeswax is suitable for all skin types—oily, sensitive, normal, or dry. We always recommend doing a patch test on a small part of your skin just to be safe.

Can I use Oz Beeswax's best seller around my eyes?

Absolutely! Our customers, both women and men, love using our best seller around their eyes. It's also fantastic for makeup removal and provides a non-irritating, soft feel. And for the fellas, it's a lifesaver as an after-shaving balm and for razor burn.

Is the Stop Itch moisturiser safe to use around my eyes?

For sure. While we always recommend doing a patch test on a small part of your skin to ensure no reactions occur, our Stop Itch moisturizer can be used sparingly around the outer eye area—just be sure not to apply it too close to your eyes or on your eyelids. During the summer months, a dab on your temples can work wonders, especially if those pesky flies are buzzing around. They'll buzz, but they won't land!

Why do you use jojoba oil in your products?

Jojoba oil is one of the closest oils to human sebum, allowing for deep penetration into the skin layers without clogging pores, so your skin can breathe easily. Combined with beeswax, sunflower oil, and our carefully selected essential oils, it creates a natural product suitable for most skin types.

Why do you use sunflower oil in your products?

Sunflower oil, rich in vitamin E, acts as a natural sunscreen by absorbing UVB light. It's commonly used as a base in skincare products and cosmetics, promoting healthy, glowing skin—ideal for sensitive skin types. Additionally, sunflower oil provides a protective barrier for the skin and is fragrance-free, making it an excellent complement to our pure Australian beeswax.

Why do you use lemongrass oil in some of your products?

Lemongrass, similar to citronella, is renowned for its insect-repelling properties, making it a perfect addition to our beeswax and two base oils. Applying a light layer around your hairline and exposed skin areas creates a barrier that deters bugs such as flies, mosquitoes, midges, sandflies, and march flies from landing. This centuries-old phenomenon offers effective protection against pesky insects.

How long do you products last?

While our best before dates offer guidance, our products generally maintain quality well beyond this timeframe. Each product is stamped with a 12-month best before date from the manufacturing date.

What is your return policy?

Any item can be refunded if it is returned within 30 days of purchase.

Please see our store policy page for full details.
